The two apps
Heart of Vegas and Cashman Casino are free social casino apps from Product Madness. Their Australian App Store pages name Where’s the Gold, both carry an 18+ rating, and both state that the game “does not offer gambling or an opportunity to win real money or prizes” [1] [2]. You play with coins; you can buy more coins, but you can never cash any out.
Heart of Vegas also runs in a web browser and on Facebook, linked from Product Madness’s own page [5]. The full comparison of what the apps do and don’t offer is on the Where’s the Gold app page.
The online version’s demo
In May 2013 Aristocrat and NYX announced that Where’s the Gold would be one of the first Aristocrat games offered to regulated online markets in Europe [4]. That online version is still on NYX’s game server, with a help file marked © Aristocrat Technologies Australia 2014 [3].
The help file describes the game you’ll see in the demo: you play 1 to 25 lines, three, four or five scattered Dynamite symbols start the feature, you pick a character, and you can win up to 10 free games and up to 3 wild gold symbols. The whole feature is explained step by step on the free spins feature page.
Some review sites embed that demo on their pages. We don’t embed it here: it’s Aristocrat’s game code, and hosting it isn’t ours to do.
Our reel toy
On the main guide there’s a reel toy we built ourselves. It shows how Dynamite, mine and card symbols drop across five reels and how three scatters start a feature. It is our drawing with our own random numbers, not Aristocrat’s game, and it pays nothing but play credits.
What free play shows and what it doesn’t
Free play is good for three things: learning what the symbols look like, seeing how the character pick works, and deciding whether you like the pace of the game before you meet it on a club floor.
It can’t tell you how a real machine will treat your money. Neither Product Madness nor Aristocrat publishes the maths of the free versions, and a venue machine’s return is set by its approved configuration and the rules of your state. The RTP guide explains what is published and where.
Free play and money
Free apps sell coins, and those purchases add up like any other in-app spend. The coins have no cash value and can’t be withdrawn. If you’d like to keep an eye on what you spend, both stores let you turn off in-app purchases in the phone’s settings.
